How We're Giving Back This Independence Day

Instead of competing with the usual Fourth of July sales, we wanted to do something different this year. To celebrate Independence Day, the T&N team has decided to donate 5% of all sales from our website on July 4th to Team Rubicon, an organization that utilizes the skills and experiences of military veterans to respond to emergencies and disasters.
Founded by two Marines in the aftermath of an earthquake in Port-au-Prince in 2010, Team Rubicon has since committed to aiding underserved communities all over the globe. Jake Wood and William McNulty gathered some supplies and a small group of veterans, first responders, and medical professionals to serve in Haiti and haven’t looked back. Through continued acts of service, Team Rubicon helps veterans transition back into civilian life by providing purpose, community, and identity.
Their desire to improve the world around them and serve those in need makes them a perfect partner for T&N’s social mission.
As an organization, social good has always been at the heart of our company.
We were one of the first online mattress companies on the market, which presented us with a unique challenge. How the heck do we handle returns once the mattress is out of the box, and how do we do it without contributing to landfills?
It struck us early on that there was a chance to do something really great with our returned products, and our donation policy started taking shape. Impacting our local community was always a goal, but by donating customer returns in their own neck of the woods, we could reach communities across the nation, all while providing a risk-free and easy customer experience.
Since 2012, we’ve donated nearly 90% of all returned mattresses to local charities all over the country—and when we can’t donate them, we recycle them.
Donating our mattresses has lead us to connections with organizations of all kinds and our team has donated over 1,000 hours of their time to projects that improve lives and our community. From outfitting transitional housing with new mattresses to doing small repairs around animal shelters, we’re always on the look out for ways to get involved—it’s the heart of everything we do.
Aside from donating our returns, we’ve been able to donate 2.5% of our sales annually in the form of monetary and product donations since we started. That’s over $8 million in monetary and product donation. As we continue to grow, we’re always looking to partner with other groups that align with our brand values. Inspired by this spirit of philanthropy, we wanted to take this opportunity to give back to the men and women who fought for our independence and continue to support communities home and abroad.
