If you’re considering an adjustable bed frame, there are some things you want to look for in a mattress to ensure you’re getting the best sleep possible. Whether you’re following your doctor’s advice to adjust your sleep position or you just like being able to read and spend more time in bed (We can’t blame you there!) the mattress you choose can make or break your experience.

An adjustable height bed frame can be found online or in store, and typically funciton about the same. Usually, they will have a remote if it is a power adjustable bed frame or a lever that adjusts the position for a non-motorized frame. The best adjustable bed frame will have a bar along the bottom to ensure that your mattress won’t slide off!

You’ll need a mattress that’s not only comfortable, but flexible so that it can move with your frame. Foam mattresses, like memory foam or latex, are usually the best bet to pair with your adjustable frame as they will flex easily. Airbeds are also a good option because they aren’t folding against any material inside.

Innerspring mattresses might be a tad less flexible due to the metal inside, but some manufacturers do make models specifically with adjustable frames in mind.

Because your mattress will be required to move and bend pretty regularly through its lifetime, a durable material will hold up over time and resist creasing along the folds. Look for mattresses made of long-lasting materials and make sure the warranty covers use with an adjustable frame.

Some mattresses may not be intended for use with an adjustable frame, which should be clearly stated in your warranty information.

The Right Fit

There are two things to keep in mind when it comes to the size of your mattress—thickness and dimensions.

If your mattress is too thick, you may find that it doesn’t settle against the frame correctly when the head is up. If it’s too thin, it may move well but it may not give you the comfort you’re looking for. Typically, standard mattress are between 10-14 inches thick, and work well with adjustable frames.

If you want to split your mattress so that the individual sides can be adjusted independently, two Twin XL’s are usually the right dimensions, but it’s always best to double check that both your mattress and your adjustable frame are standard sizes. Our mattresses are all standard sizes and have the perfect flexibility to compliment an adjustable frame — if you want to learn more you can click here!
