Whether it’s mom or your old college roommate out for a visit, creating a warm and inviting guest room will make you the best host ever, and it’s not too complicated to pull off.
If you want the best guest room, pay attention to the details and your guests will be sure to thank you.
Lay Of The Land
Nothing is worse than staying in someone’s home and not knowing where to go for amenities, especially if it’s late at night and you don’t want to bother your hosts. It can be tough to break out of your day-to-day usage of your home, but take a second to think through all the needs you might have and provide that information to your guest.
- A set of keys
- Garage codes, security system codes, door codes if you’ve got a smart lock
- WiFi password
- Tricks to working the TV
- Where water glasses, towels, toothpaste, etc.
- The magic word to get the dog to stop barking in the morning
A Homey Feel
You want your guests to make themselves at home, without adding too much clutter to the room. A fresh set of linens, alarm clock, and maybe a notepad and pen can go a long way to making a room feel less like a hotel. Good lighting is also appreciated, in case your guests have work to do while they visit or brought a great book along.
Plush pillows and blankets help melt the stress of a long day of travel and provide the perfect place to settle in for a long weekend of over the holidays. Of course, you have to have a good mattress to make sure your guests don’t wake up stiff or toss and turn all night.
Bonus Points
While these definitely aren’t requirements, a few extra touches can take your guest room to the next level. Pamphlets from nearby tourist destinations, for example, can inspire your guests to explore your hometown. Snacks and refreshments are also a nice touch, especially if your guest is visiting from a different time zone and might be waking up much earlier or staying up later than the rest of the house.
Fresh flowers can also provide a welcoming air to your room and make your guest feel special. Access to entertainment can also help your guests have a moment to themselves to unwind if you’ve got a packed schedule. Leaving your favorite books or movies is always a nice gesture.
Follow these guidelines and you’re sure to be the favorite place to stay in your circle!
