At T&N, every day is an opportunity to Give Back.
We know the importance of giving back. In fact, we have an entire department dedicated to it. For us, philanthropy isn’t reserved for one day a year; rather, it is at the core of who we are and what we stand for.
The Tuft & Needle Gives Back™ Program exists for the sole purpose of contributing to local communities in a positive and impactful way. Everyone deserves a good education and a great night’s sleep.
And we sleep better doing business our way.
Tuft & Needle’s philanthropic return policy
One of the creative ways T&N Gives Back™ is built into our return policy. We made a commitment early on that, instead of immediately reselling or throwing a returned mattress into a landfill, we would do our best to find another home for it. Oftentimes, returned mattresses are donated to local charities. In states where mattress donation is limited or restricted, we coordinate with customers a way to recycle a mattress or give it to a friend or family member.
You might be wondering why we handle returns this way, and the answer is simple: we are more concerned with spreading good in the world than we are with monetary loss.
“We developed and pioneered a return policy in our industry where mattresses are donated to charity partners nationwide. As we continue to grow, we are excited to expand our mission of donating mattresses to those in need, especially because we understand the importance of a good night’s sleep.” — Daehee Park, Tuft & Needle Co-founder
Employee involvement in T&N Gives Back™
Employee involvement in charitable giving is a major tenet of our culture. We encourage team members to donate a mattress to a charity or family in need each year and, recently, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by allowing every employee to gift a mattress to an educator who impacted their life.
In addition to these periodic events, a favorite Tuft & Needle holiday tradition is Gives Back™ Day, when we venture out of the office to volunteer our time at local nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity, Ryan House, Home Fur Good, and St. Mary’s Food Bank.
Taking care of the communities we come from
After Hurricane Harvey caused overwhelming damage to parts of Texas and Louisiana in 2017, Tuft & Needle pledged to give $100,000 to support Houston—where the majority of the destruction occurred. This effort started with an outright gift of $25,000 to Bread of Life as well as mattress donations where needed.
Last year, we opened a store in Gilbert, Arizona and donated 100% of the proceeds from opening day to Furnishing Dignity, an organization that works to help the working homeless get out of poverty and into their own furnished apartments. Through this event, we were able to donate more than $20,000, which was stretched to assist nearly 100 of our community members in need.
