How Sleeping Nude Can Improve Health

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you should get naked… before you climb into bed at night.

For your health, obviously.

(What’d you think we were going to say? Don’t make it weird.)

But really, you should try it. From decreasing your susceptibility to certain medical conditions, to boosting your self esteem, sleeping in the buff might just be the best idea you’ve ever had.

Sleeping naked can…

Help you fall asleep faster and improve your overall quality of sleep.

Temperature plays a significant role in sleep. If you’re too hot or too cold, you may have a hard time sleeping, but always err on the cold side. When you’re in bed and start to doze off, your body temperature decreases, so sleeping naked cools your body faster to speed up the process. For adults, the National Sleep Foundation suggests an ideal bedroom temp between 60 and 67 degrees. For kids’ rooms, the ideal temperature is a little on the warmer side between 68 and 72 degrees.

Reduce your stress level and vulnerability to medical conditions.

We all know what it’s like to lie in bed, wide awake, all too aware that every passing minute is one less minute you have to get some actual sleep. Even one night of tossing and turning can throw off your whole sleep routine for a week. As mentioned above, turning down the thermostat will help you fall asleep faster, thus sparing you the stress and annoyance of insomnia. Additionally, a lack of sleep has been linked to mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, as well as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Boost your confidence.

Body image and self image go hand-in-hand; your body image influences how you see yourself as a whole. If you have a negative body image, you will likely have a negative self image and vice versa. The majority of us struggle with our body image as a result of unrealistic societal expectations, but now we know that spending time naked can actually make you feel more comfortable in your skin. By spending more time in your birthday suit, you’ll either begin to accept yourself as you are or you may feel inspired to work on the things you feel will improve your body image.

Strengthen your relationship.

Last week, we shared a blog post for National Cuddle Up Day about the benefits of—you guessed it—cuddling. The article explains that, in response to cuddling, your body produces the hormone oxytocin, which is what makes you feel warm and fuzzy. This is true for skin-to-skin contact with your partner, as well. Physical touch is a primal need for humans to feel secure and to survive. It plays a very important role in strengthening the bonds between parents and children as well as between romantic partners. Without regular physical affection, you can become depressed and your relationships may suffer.

Now that you know all the good things that can come from sleeping naked, are you going to try it? If you don’t want to go full nude, disrobe to the level that makes you comfortable and see how it goes. Happy (naked) sleeping!
